Why Didn't I Think of That #35 - Gift Wrap Control

#1 - SHOP of the DAY - meltemsem

#2 - ITEM of the DAY - Vintage mid century Teapot, Russian teapot, classic design silver teapot, rustic kitchen, retro kitchenware, housewarming gift

Hobby Lobby says it's that time.
Christmas time of course. Oh is it only August? Hobby Lobby doesn't care.
They put me in a frenzy of buying sparkly ornaments and snowmen as I sit in 90 degree heat on my back porch in straight up confusion.
They also make me feel the need to buy wrapping paper even though technically I have nothing to wrap yet.
If your like me this wrapping paper once it's unwrapped becomes for lack of a better word a hot mess. Here is a way to control it. And if you have been hoarding toilet paper rolls like myself...you are in luck.

Tutorial Thursday #32 - Ribbon Bow Holder

#1 - SHOP of the DAY -Greencycledesigns

#2 - ITEM of the DAY - The Bookmark Reading Program Set of 3 Children's Readers Shades of Blue & Green Aqua, Teal, Sea Green

I am always looking for fun baby gifts to give at showers. I am reaching that age now where everyone seems to have a baby and lots of them seem to be girls. This means present. Lots of present. And diapers.
Sure you have the oh so cute shoes and bloomers and hair bows and basically anything sparkly and pink is a winner.
Well I'm not so talented at making any of those but I am ok with ribbon. So this seems pretty much down my alley of creative, cheap, and different than diapers.
Although I know those are always a good backup.

Happy Thursday!

Why Didn't I Thinks of That #34 - DIY Reusable Bags

#1 - SHOP of the DAY - EPUU

#2 - ITEM of the DAY - Mustard Yellow Round Chunky Bead Necklace. Big Round Wood Beads.

I am a huge fan of reusable bags. Not that I am actually good about bringing to the grocery store but the sheer fact that I buy them makes me feel eco-friendly. It's the thought that counts right?
I also see these monogrammed bags everywhere on the internet but they are quite expensive. You know me...I do not pay full price. But I loved these bags. It was quite the problem.
So when I saw that for about $5 worth of supplies I could makes my own bags and even ones as gifts... I almost fainted. Perfect birthday / christmas / even baby shower bags. Add a bow around the top and you are set.

New Giveaway - Earrings by Trinkets by Dana

It's Giveaway Time! Check out these super cute summery earrings by Trinkets by Dana - a $15 value!

Name of Shop: Trinkets by Dana

I usually just say trinkets (with a lowercase t) for short.

Category of Items you sell:

I sell everything from paper crafts/decor for parties and weddings to jewelry/accessories... and of course original art/prints/fine art photography. It's a mouthful-- that's why "trinkets" is perfect for the variety!

1. How long have you had your shop?

I've had it for 2 years now. This winter will be the first holiday I really get to prep my shop for since last year was the guinea pig year.

2. What inspired you to make Trinkets by Dana?

I'm a college student currently about to start my Senior year. I started the etsy shop my freshman year during the Spring semester as a personal leisure/hiatus from school work. I spent most of my childhood drawing and taking art electives at school so it wasn't anything new to me but actually taking pictures of my work/selling it online was inspired by fellow etsians. I browsed beautiful shops and saw what they had to offer and thought that I should find a way to de-stress while enjoying myself/sharing art with others.

3. Who or what inspired you to create?

Anything and everything! You should never feel limited in inspiration. Here is an example: When I'm taking a drive, I look at the architecture of buildings and the fine details we tend to miss out on during everyday chores like the architectural details at some old banks or downtown skyscrapers. I do however love going to home decor/furniture stores (or skimming their magazines) because they have a combination of art and architecture to browse through-- plus I love home supplies... :)

4. What has been your biggest accomplishment as a shop owner / artist?

Ooh. That's a tough questions just because the utter excitement/joy I feel bundling up as I try to accumulate my thoughts into words. I think the biggest accomplishment for me as a shop owner was being able to push through the doubts and negativity people would have to offer about my small online business even if it was really just for my sanity at first. The biggest accomplishment as an artist is being able to offer my work to people who have a vision for what they want exactly-- whether its a wall canvas or wedding table toppers. It's also always a plus that I get to collaborate with such a wonderful and supportive art community.

5. What has been the hardest part about starting a business?

Not having a precedent to follow. You can read up on forums and books on how to start but I feel as though every shop is unique and should be catered to differently. It was so difficult experimenting with a new line of items and not knowing its success rate right away or not knowing how to price things correctly so that that you are not under/over-pricing your work.

6. What would be your biggest tip to a brand new shop owner / artist on Etsy?

Don't lose sight of what you want to accomplish with your shop. Don't get caught up in quantity but quality and definitely take your time with the development of your shop. What you have to offer to the world may not get traffic as fast as another shop but that doesn't mean you don't have something special to offer. All good things take time!

Rattlesnakes and Wedding Dresses

#1 - SHOP of the DAY - rokdarbi4u2

#2 - ITEM of the DAY - Statement necklace in shades of orange, yellow and aqua, spring fashion

Fridays, Fridays. I still have yet to decide what to blog about on Fridays. I hate to tie myself down to a subject like I do every other day because sometimes I just like to share a funny picture or to. Structure has never been my strong suit.
I think the best advice I have ever seen from other bloggers is to just do what you love and roll with it. So. I will. I live dangerously you know.

These are a few of my favorite things for the week.

1. Went to visit the parents this past weekend. This is how we store memories in Texas. Yes. That is a rattlesnake skin killed from the front yard.

2. Endless amounts of giggles

Happy Friday!

Tutorial Thursday #31 - Lazy Sewing

#1 - SHOP of the DAY - giddyupandgrow

#2 - ITEM of the DAY - Yellow Billy Ball Flower Pillow in Natural Linen by JillianReneDecor Billy Button Botanical Home Decor

When I first got my sewing machine I was all about it. I mean in the span of 2 days I had made 2 skirts and a blanket. They weren't great but man was I proud of myself.I thought, take that Banana Republic I'm never buying clothes again! And then...life happened and the dishes had to be washed (high maintenance) So not to say I still don't enjoy sewing, it's more the fact that if i could still accomplish the same idea without it, you got me.

Why Didn't I Think of That #33 - Car Trash

#1 - SHOP of the DAY - Seaandcake

#2 - ITEM of the DAY - Teacher Appreciation Mini Towel Cake

Would you like to know how I spent my morning? Woke up at the crack of dawn to sit in the lovely waiting room of a Kia dealership as they withdrew a GIANT nail out of one of my tires. Whew thank goodness for tire insurance.
I am really bad with car stuff. I mean it's a miracle my car gets washed (thank you rain) or gets vacuumed (thank you husband) or that I even make it out with correct insurance (I did manage that one myself).
I am EVEN WORSE at keeping my car clean. Oh is the passenger seat for sitting? I thought it was to hold my purse and trash. Now with this little invention I can at least keep the trash from the car floor. The purse is still a work in progress.

Old (or new) reusable cereal container and a grocery bag

Coffee and Sleep

Has it been 2 years? Sure feels like it! Wow can we really talk about how important vacations from "normal" things are. You would think I had this figured out by now being a teacher. Summer breaks are imperative to my mental health.
Coffee and sleep cures all. But seriously my advice for my first Monday back. Don't Get caught up in all the "must -do's" and "if I don'ts." Go crazy and take a nap when you need to do laundry and sit on the porch when you need to get groceries.
And get off Pinterest for awhile. Yeah... I said it. Live life on the edge. I think it makes you feel better and be better.

Happy Monday!
